Obituary for Wayne W. Hankins

Wayne Wilbur Hankins was born to Gilbert and Ruth (Lundquist) Hankins on October 9, 1927 in Gordon, Nebraska. He passed away November 27, 2018 at Journey House in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years.

Wayne graduated from Lyons High School in 1945. On March 29, 1951 he entered the army and received his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was sent overseas to Eta Jima, Japan at Headquarters and Headquarters Company – U.S. Army Japan and was a clerk typist until his discharge on March 11, 1953.

On August 22, 1951 he was married to Rosella Ostrand in Bancroft, Nebraska. They moved to a farm east of Lyons, Nebraska where they lived and farmed for 30 plus years. They moved to Missouri for a few years and then to Lincoln in July 1995.

In Lincoln, Wayne worked at Wendy's. Wayne enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bowling, watching Western movies and was a big fan of the KC Royals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ruth Hankins; sisters, Vivian Metzler and Zola Cornwell; sons, Jerry Hankins and Kevin Hankins; daughter, Marla (Hankins) Rohnke; granddaughter, Michelle Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosella of Lincoln; daughter, Cindy (Hankins) Anderson of Dixon MO; sons, Brian (Karen) Hankins, Bruce (Jill) Hankins; son-in-law, Steve Rohnke all of Lincoln; grandchildren, Cherri (Anderson) and Jeff Grube, Gerry Anderson Jr. and Melissa Anderson all of MO; step grandson, Dalton Halsey of Lincoln; 12 great grandchildren.
