Vivian Evangelen (Hammer) Thomas was born to Albert and Violet (Wallin) Hammer on March 17, 1932, in rural Newman Grove, Nebraska. She passed away January 31, 2019, at CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha, Nebraska.

She attended country school through 8th grade, then Albion High School, where she graduated in 1949. She then moved to Tekamah where her sister Arlene lived.

On February 18, 1951, she married Donald Leo Thomas at First Methodist Church in Tekamah. They were married 66 years and lived most of them in Tekamah.
