Obituary for Vern C. Tippery

Vern Carol Tippery was born September 21, 1930 to Roy and Myrtle (Hightree) Tippery in rural Decatur, Nebraska on the family farm. He passed away June 1, 2019 at his home in Decatur at the age of 88.

He graduated High School in Decatur in 1948, served in the Army during the Korean War and returned to the family farm and married Helen Tague on March 17, 1956 in Shelton NE. They became the parents to three children
He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Decatur United Methodist Church and was an active member throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Carol Marie, wife of 20 years, Helen, brother Lyle Tippery, sister-in-law Laura Tippery, brother-in-law Erwin Hennig.

Vern found love again and married Gwendolyn Menard of Omaha NE on June 15, 1991, at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah, NE.

Vern lived his whole life in the Decatur area working for Hundahl Farms, Peck Manufacturing as well other various jobs. He enjoyed dancing with Gwen, playing cards at the senior center, and volunteering whenever called upon. Among those things: Meals on Wheels and mowing for the Museum. Vern was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Gwen; sons Eric (Ruth) Tippery of Fremont, NE; Doug (Beth) Tippery of Peoria, AZ; Brothers Elmer Tippery, Glen (Joan) Tippery of Decatur NE; Sister Velma Hennig of Tekamah, NE; Sister-in-law Helen L. Tippery of Decatur, NE; step-children Joseph (Laurie) Menard of Crescent IA, Pat (Mary) Menard of Little Sioux IA; Mike (Kathryn) Menard of Little Sioux IA; Suzanne Seites of Aurora NE; Albert (Melissa) Menard of Omaha, NE; Julie (Mike) Prine of Valley NE; 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
