Obituary for Raymond "Ray" Braniff

Raymond “Ray” Braniff was born to John and Rose (Sutej) Braniff on June 30, 1938 in their Omaha, NE home. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 21, 2019, while surrounded by loved ones.

Ray graduated from Omaha’s Technical High School in 1957. He married Kathleen Ellen Farrell on April 18, 1959 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Omaha. Thus, began a remarkable union that spanned more than sixty years. A desire to raise their family centered around small-town values led them to relocate to a farmstead in Tekamah, NE in 1973. Ray and Kathleen went on to raise their 14 children on this parcel. This place suited Ray so well that he chose to call it home for the remainder of his life.

As a young man, Ray served as a groom for the racehorses owned by his parents. He went on to work in the railroad industry for a total of 38 years. He was a carman and welder for both Burlington and Union Pacific. Ray’s fascination with trains would never cease and he continued to be a railroad enthusiast throughout his years.

In retirement, he filled his days with activities that he enjoyed. He was a regular volunteer at the Burt County Museum, assisted local farmers during harvest time, and was likely to be found outside mowing, chopping wood, or tinkering in the garage. He attended countless school sporting events, in steadfast support of his beloved children and grandchildren and their athletic endeavors. Ray truly got into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day as he designed elaborate floats to display at the parade. He was firmly devoted to the Catholic faith and regularly attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. When not engaged in the aforementioned activities, Ray had the important responsibility of “Driving Miss Daisy” to and from her obligations.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Braniff; brother, Bill Braniff; sister, Dolores Krajicek.

He is survived by his brother, Tom Braniff of Omaha, NE; sister, Joann Andrews of Spokane, WA.

Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathleen; children, Kelly (Tom) Olson of Tekamah, Ray (Kris) Braniff of Tekamah, Mike (Susan) Braniff of Tekamah, Colleen (Kevin) Moseman of Omaha, Beth (Mark) Rasmussen of Bennington, NE, Tim (Bonnie) Braniff of Tekamah, Pat (Teresa) Braniff of Tekamah, Dan Braniff of Tekamah, Teresa (Lyle) Pille of Oakland, NE, Joe Braniff of Tekamah, K.C. (Carrie) Braniff of Tekamah, Rusty Braniff of Tekamah, Erin (Scott) Wilson of Papillion, NE, Mary (Clay) Clabaugh of Oakland. He will be fondly remembered by his 49 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
