DONALD ALAN YOUNG was born June 27, 1939, to Glen and Eva (Roethler) Young on a farm near Bassett, Iowa.  He passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at his home in rural Oakland, Nebraska, with family by his side.Donald was 71 years of age.
 
After graduating from Charles City High School in 1956, he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.
 
On September 11, 1960 he married Julie Ann Miles in Waterloo, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Bassett, Iowa until 1972 when they moved to Uehling, Nebraska. There he managed Hillside Dairy. In 1985 they moved to their present home on an acreage near Uehling.  He enjoyed buying cattle for Cimpl's Pack and trading stories with all his sale barn buddies.
 
His family and friends brought him great joy throughout his life. He truly LOVED being a grandpa - waigong.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
 
Survivors include his wife, Julie and four children, Laura (Dave) Devoe of Murrieta, CA, Keith Young and Martha Rains of Scribner, NE, Lila(Bruce) Peterson of Omaha, NE, Carla (Tim) Kaup of Arlington, NE; two sisters, Mary (Joe) Koenigsfeld of Dakota City, NE, Betty Attleson of Rochester, MN; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Young of Gladbrook, IA, Dick (Kay) Young of Charles City, IA; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, January 8, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland

BURIAL: Uehling Cemetery, Uehling, Nebraska, with Military Honors by Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and American Legion Post No. 46

VISITATION: Friday 4 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Saturday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service at the church.
