Milton C. Uman

1922 ~ 2011

MILTON C. UMAN, 88 years of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Friday, September 30, 2011, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years from complication of heart surgery.

Milton Clyde Uman was born October 1, 1922, at Marquette, Nebraska, to Verner and Lillie (Nicholson) Uman. The family moved to a farm northwest of Oakland in 1927, where Milton attended Morningside Country School. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1940. Following graduation, he worked at a dairy farm near Omaha and then Hillside Dairy at Uehling until 1953.

Milton married Ruby Richards of Craig, Nebraska, on April 22, 1951, and just this past spring they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Milton started farming northwest of Oakland in 1953 and was still living on the farm up until his death. He retired in 1983 after suffering a light heart attack and his son, Lonnie, took over the farming. He continued to help out on the farm after retirement, but he also was able to have more time now to travel. Milton and Ruby had the chance to visit all the lower 48 states through the many bus tours that they took. He enjoyed going to Branson many times for the shows and had actually just got back from a tour there a day before his stay in the hospital.

Milton was an avid sports fan both participating in his younger years (baseball, basketball, bowling, horseshoes, roller and ice skating among his favorites) and he always enjoyed watching football and baseball games on TV, especially the Chicago Cubs. He loved the outdoors, raising a garden, playing pitch or pinochle with family and friends, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and most especially he loved his family.

He was a past board member of Morningside Country School and a confirmed member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church in Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd; sister, Dora Miller and Myrtle Severson.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; sons, Wayne and Lonnie all of Oakland; sisters-in-law, Edna Uman of Omaha, and Phyllis Kauffman of Calhan, Colorado; brother-in-law, Roland Richards and his wife, Mary Ann of Oakland;  numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
