HELEN MAE UHING was born January 12, 1922 in Lyons, Nebraska, the fifth of seven children born to John and Dora (Brown) Newell. She passed away Friday, March 12, 2010, at Hospice St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 88 years. Helen was raised in the Lyons community. She was baptized and confirmed at West Side Methodist Church west of Oakland, Nebraska. On July 3, 1939, Helen & Eugene B. Uhing were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons. They farmed in Burt County, in rural Tekamah and Oakland. They lived in Papillion, Nebrska, for four years. Helen lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, for seven years. She loved having a big garden and flowers, and loved to sit and watch the birds and squirrels. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; son, Roland; granddaughter, Mary Ann Bristal; grandson, Scott Swenson; two great-grandsons, Dakota & Montana Bristal; one great granddaughter, Angela Uhing; brothers and sister-in-law, Ralph “Jack” Newell and Roland and Marjorie Newell. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Jack Ibsen of Indianapolis, IN; Janice Peterson of Fremont, NE, Karen and Marlin Nelson of Ava, MO; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Uhing of Ava, MO; Harold & Evadine Uhing of Papillion, Alice Jo Uhing of Tekamah, NE; sister, Ruth Black of Long Beach, CA; 27 grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. FUNERAL MASS: Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah VISITATION: Tuesday 5 - 8 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. VIGIL PRAYER SERVICE at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation Wednesday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery
