June M. Tranmer

1930 ~ 2008

 

JUNE MARIE TRANMER was born on July 6, 1930 in Tekamah to Floyd and Hazel King.  She died at her home in Tekamah on February 4, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 29 days.

June was raised in small rural communities in Burt County.  The family home was a lively and welcoming place with four brothers and three sisters.  She enjoyed rod and reel fishing and learned to play both the piano and guitar.  She developed a life-long love of polka music.

June married Orin Tranmer on May 20, 1948 in Decatur.  During their life together they lived on several farms and in Decatur, Herman and Bertha.  Orin worked as a farm hand on different farms in Washington and Burt Counties. Their union was blessed with six children.  Orin died on December 8, 1977 while they were living in Bertha June moved her family for the last time to Tekamah in 1979 and settled at the home on E. Street. She offered a warm welcome to all visitors and loved her family very much.  She was known for her funny stories and her home-baked goodies, especially her cinnamon rolls. People always felt comfortable around her.

In addition to homemaking June did some babysitting and house cleaning.

In later years she enjoyed going with son, Kent, to search for bargains at local thrift stories and garage sales as well as sitting at the kitchen table coloring and listening to polka music on the radio.

Preceding June in death were her parents, three sisters, three brothers, her husband, Orin, and one son, Ronnie Tranmer.

Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley (Philip) Craig of Blair; four sons, Lew (Cindy), Dale, and Kent, all of Tekamah, and Randy (Linda) of Lavista; one brother, Donnie (Jeanette) King of Craig; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and host of other relatives and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, February 7, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

VISITATION: Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service.
