Laura Love Tippery

1927 ~ 2010

LAURA LOVE TIPPERY beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt passed away Monday, January 25, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.

Laura was born February 9, 1927, in Greeley, Colorado, to Herbert and Mabel (Jacobsen) Bartrop. Due to the death of her father and her mother’s poor health, Laura was adopted and raised by Mabel’s sister, Laura and her husband, Andrew Jacobsen of Tekamah, Nebraska.

Laura graduated from Tekamah High School in 1944 and went on to receive her teaching degree from Wayne State College.

On August 5, 1951, Laura and Elmer Tippery were united in marriage at Riverside Baptist Church in rural Tekamah. They had three children: Paul, Anne and Beth.

Laura enjoyed teaching young children and spent most of her career at the Decatur Public School.

Laura was dedicated to her Lord, her church, Decatur United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the community. She was a lifetime member of the Decatur American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 215.

Family and friends were a very important part of her life. She was very proud of her granddaughter, Rhiannon and her achievements. Other people’s needs were always put before her own, and she found happiness in even the smallest of things. Laura has continued giving to others by being an organ and tissue donor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mabel Bartrop, Andrew and Laura Jacobsen and her brother, Jim Jacobsen.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Elmer of Decatur; son: Paul Tippery of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Marcia Tippery and granddaughter, Rhiannon Tippery of St. Paul, Minnesota; daughters and son-in-law, Anne and Danny Hartgenbush of Omaha, and Beth Tippery of Omaha; a multitude of family and friends.
