ANITA L. (RABE) TIETJEN was born March 8, 1941, in Fremont, Nebraska to Willis and Muriel (Strand) Rabe. She passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at her home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, at the age of 67 years. Anita was confirmed at the Uehling Congregational Church, where she attended Sunday school grades K-12 with perfect attendance. She received her education at Harmony School, District #64 in Burt County and graduated from Oakland High School in 1959, where she was a cheerleader, band majorette and Homecoming Queen. She was a member of the Peppy Doers 4-H Club and represented Burt County as a 4-H queen candidate at the Dodge County Fair. As a young girl, she worked at the Confectionary in Oakland, Al’s Cafe in Fremont and also the Uehling Cafe. On August 18, 1962, Anita and Marvin “Mick” Tietjen, Jr. were united in marriage at the Congregation Church in Uehling, Nebraska. They had two sons: Marty and Kent, and made their home in South Sioux City, Nebraska for 35 years. After attending Wayne State College for two years, Anita began her teaching career in Fremont, District #52 in Burt County and Oakland Elementary. She continued her education, attending night classes at Wayne State, and taught at the Bancroft, Hopkins, Everett, and Irving Schools, and completed her 39-year teaching career at Sunnyside Elementary School in Sioux City, Iowa. Anita’s interests were dancing, sewing, flowers, bird watching and decorating. Her passion in life was spending time with her two grandsons. She was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She also volunteered in the church library and enjoyed making banners. Anita was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mick; son, Marty; father, Willis Rabe; father- and mother-in-law: Marvin and Ann Tietjen and sister-in-law: Judy Tietjen. Survivors include her son: Kent of South Sioux City; two grandchildren Gage and Laiken Tietjen; mother: Muriel Rabe of Oakland, Nebraska; brothers and sister-in-law: Randy and Sharon Rabe of Greer, South Carolina, Barry Rabe of Oakland; sister: Carrie Skaff of Wichita, Kansas; brother-in-law: Steve Tietjen of Sedalia, Colorado; sister- and brother-in-law: Marilyn and Dr. Rex Fischer of Manhattan, Kansas; nephews: Jason and Scott Tietjen, Jordan and Andrew Skaff; Don Cole; nieces: Angie Fox, Kelly Dortch, Leah and Jane Rabe, Lisa and Marie Skaff, Sara Roddell, Jill Johnson, Debbie Cole. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, November 8, 2008, 10:30 a.m. Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 S. Lakeport St., Sioux City, IA, INTERMENT: Saturday, November 8, 2008, 1:30 p.m. at Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, NE.
