WELDON EVALD "SWEDE" SWANSON, died Saturday July 2, 2011, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas after a brief illness.  Weldon was born June 2, 1929, in Oakland, Nebraska, the fourth of nine children of Nils Hugo and Edith Cecilia (Johnson) Swanson .

Weldon attended twelve years of school in Oakland. He worked construction, during his younger years, living in Norfolk, West Point, and Pender.  Weldon then settled in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where he was the owner of Swede’s Bar, and later Swede’s Used Auto Sales in Thief River Falls.  After selling these businesses, he opened Swede’s Snow Sled Inn in Genitly, Minnesota, which he ran until he sold and retired in 1997.  He then moved to Leavenworth, Kansas to be near family.

Weldon was a man’s / man with many, many friends.  He had a quick since of humor, loved telling stories and was the first to give a helping hand.  He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Lillian Swanson (infant sister), Carl Rudolph (brother), Marvin Theodore (brother), Martha Ebba (sister) and Larry Dean (brother), spouses, Dorothy Maline Anderson, Loretta Ann Berner and Luella Heineman. 

Weldon is survived by brothers, Thomas and Carol Swanson of Great Falls, Montana, Dwain Leonard Swanson of Valier, Montana and Gordon and Linda Swanson of Uehling, Nebraska; his children, Jerry and Annetta Swanson of Leavenworth, Kansas, Jesse and Vicky Swanson of Fargo, N.D., Rick and Lorie Larson of Creston, Nebraska and Karl Swanson of Norfolk, Nebrask; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, July 8, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland.

VISITATION:  The Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held Friday one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL:  Craig Cemetery, Craig, Nebraska
