Stephen F. Sok

1931 ~ 2009

STEPHEN FRANK SOK was born December 2, 1931, at the family farm house in Sherman County, Nebraska, to John and Anna (Augustyn) Sok. He passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 77 years.

Stephen graduated from Tekamah High School in 1948. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on February 9, 1955.

On October 6, 1956, Stephen married Patricia Wegner.

He worked as a carpenter for Orville Jordan in the Tekamah area after being discharged from the Army and began farming in 1956. He operated a grain and livestock farm in the Tekamah/Craig area with wife, Patricia and family until his retirement in 2005.

Stephen was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and its choir in Lyons, Nebraska, the Craig American Legion Post No. 127, Oakland Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a past member of the Oakland Craig school board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry; father-in-law, Roman Wegner; brothers-in-law; Alvin Vetick and Leon Marquardt; daughter-in-law: Laurie Sok.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Fremont, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Roxanna of Springfield, Nebraska, Mike of Fremont,  James and Marci of Norfolk Nebraska, and John of Elkhorn, Nebraska; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa  & David Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathy and David Pearson  of Oakland, Nebraska, Chris Von Seggern of Blair, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lillian Vetick of Lyons, Josephine Marquardt of Omaha, Eva and Bernard Spenner, of Tekamah, Nebraska, Adelene and Art Laetsch of Atkinson Nebraska, Marie  and Robert Gill of Tekamah; sister-in-law: Darlene Sok of Lyons; mother-in-law, Mariada Wegner of Elkhorn; brothers- and sisters-in-law:  Duane and Connie Wegner of Willmar Minnesota, Ramona and Thomas Morris of Salem South Carolina, Mary and Thomas Gracey  of Omaha; many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL MASS: Friday, June 5, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery with Military Honors by the Craig American Legion Post No. 127, Oakland Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and American Legion Post No. 46.

VISITATION: Thursday, 1 - 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Wake Service all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lyons. Friday visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church
