MARY ANN SMITH was born May 24, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Fred A. and Louise (McKenzie) Fachman. She passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Florence Home in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary Ann attended school in Sioux City before her family moved to Hooper, Nebraska, where she graduated from Hooper High School in 1955. Mary Ann was a wonderful cook. She cooked at Hooper Inn, Al’s Cafe, Kindler’s and Smith’s Cafe. She also loved cats. Mary Ann married and had four children. She later met Donald C. Smith, who became the love of her life. They married on June 6, 1982, in Fremont, Nebraska. They made their home in Rosalie, when Donald started working with the Staneks. When her health was better she attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA and the Senior Citizen center. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Donald; 2 brothers; a sister and son, Billy Cookman. Survivors include her daughters, Theresa Cookman and Barb Cookman both of Omaha, Nebraska, Karen Cookman of Rosalie; 5 grandchildren, Tomeka, Raymond, Eddie, Tylina all of Omaha, Katesha of Rosalie; twin great grandchildren, Xavier and Taylor of Omaha; brothers, Fred (Heidi) Fachman of Hooper, George Fachman of Nevada; sister, Gloria (Duane) Culpepper of Georgia; best friend, Shirley Luther and her cat, Sweetie.
