Marjorie A. Schold

1930 ~ 2009

 

MARJORIE ANN SCHOLD was born July 23, 1930, at the Lyons Hospital in Lyons, Nebraska to Raymond and Eva (Blankenbeckler) McKenzie. She passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years.

Marjorie was baptized, confirmed and married in the First Presbyterian Church on Lyons’ main street. She lived on a farm south of Bertha for around 2 ½ years, when her father lost his health and could no longer farm, the family moved into Lyons. Marjorie attended school in Lyons graduating from Lyons High School in May 1948. In the middle of her senior year, she went to Lincoln to stay with her sister Rosamond, where she attended the University of Nebraska in preparation for teaching elementary school. She started teaching at Divide Center K-8th grades with 33 students. The second year there, Mary Alice Grenier Pearson took the lower grades and Marjorie taught the upper grades.

On May 28, 1950, Marjorie married Donald Schold of rural Oakland. They lived upstairs in the home of Don’s parents for 6 years. Marjorie taught at 3 rural schools for 7 ½ years. In 1956, they moved to the Benne house. In 1957, David was born. They returned to the Schold farm in 1958, when Don’s folks moved into Oakland. Susan was born in 1961. They enjoyed a good life on the family farm. In December 1998, they moved into Oakland. Don passed away April 22, 1999.

Marjorie was an active member of the Salem Covenant Church in rural Oakland, joining shortly after she was married. She was a member of the Salem Covenant Women, Hi-League youth group counselor and served as chairman of the Memorial Committee. While on the committee, she was proud to have helped in the design of the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. She was a past member of the Oakland Women’s Club, Swingaway Square Dance Club, C.U. Friday Club and served as a vote counter on the Election Board. She was a member of the Oakland-Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; sister, Rosamond Redding; two brothers-in-law: Alvern Schold and Dan Werkmeister.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Laurie Schold; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ted Beckner all of Oakland; four grandchildren, Cory Schold of Fremont, Jesse (Kim) Schold, Erin (Bryson) Peterson, Ross Beckner all of Oakland; two great grandchildren, Julie of Oakland and Anden of Fremont; sister, Mary Lou Werkmeister of Denver, Colorado, brother-in-law, Elwin Redding of Helena, Montana; sister-in-law, June Schold of Oakland.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, July 13, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Covenant Church in rural Oakland.

VISITATION: Sunday, July 12, 2009, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Salem Cemetery, rural Oakland, Nebraska.
