R.K. ROBERTSON “KEN” was born October 31, 1927, in Lyons, Nebraska, to Glen and Theora Robertson. He passed away Friday, November 18, 2011, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years. Ken was raised in Lyons, graduating from Lyons High School in 1945. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for one semester before enlisting in the US Army in 1946. He served in the 43rd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron and was stationed at Fort Mead, MD. He was discharged in 1947 and returned to UNL, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1951. He moved to Tekamah that same year to enter the auction business with his father and associates. At the same time he became an agent for Equitable Life Insurance, serving that capacity for over 50 years. He married Dottie Harms of Bancroft in 1952. They had four children. Ken joined the American Legion after moving to Tekamah. He recently retired as Tekamah Legion Commander after serving 16 years in that position. He served as Burt County Commander for many years and Area 3 District Commander for 18 months. In August 2010, he was part of a Heartland Honor Flight, flying to Washington, D.C. for a one day tour of the many war memorials and other attractions. He had a special interest in obtaining commemorative caps for many veterans here and away. In the spring he would be out asking for donations to send several high school juniors to Boys and Girls State in Lincoln. His hobbies were his work and visiting with friends. Ken was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church, serving both as elder and trustee. He served on the Ministerial Association, Burt County Veterans Service Committee, “40 & 8”, past president of the Tekamah Chamber of Commerce, member of the Masonic Lodge, Tangier Shrine and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott and brother, Gerald. Survivors include his wife, Dottie; daughter, Jane (Steve) Langvardt of Hutchinson, KS; sons, Clark (Suzanne) Robertson of Jacksonville, FL, Bruce (Teri) Robertson of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Jess (Jessie) Langvardt of Indianapolis, IN, Adam( Jessica) Langvardt of Canton, OH, Ben Robertson and Lauren Robertson both of Denver, CO. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Wednesday, November23, 2011, 11:00 a.m., First Presbyterian Church, Tekamah. BURIAL: Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., Tekamah Cemetery Military Honors by VFW Bataan Post No. 3304 and American Legion LaFrenz Post No. 15. VISITATION: Tuesday, November22, 2011, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. MEMORIALS: First Presbyterian Church, Tekamah, Tekamah Veterans Organization and Tekamah Library.
