ROLAND W. REWINKEL, son of William H. and Amanda( Strehlo) Rewinkel was born at Lyons, Nebraska on July 17, 1916. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran Church at Lyons, where he was a member for 78 years. He passed away Friday, January 28, 2011, at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska, 94 years. Roland lived on the farm where he was born for 76 years before moving to Tekamah, Nebraska in 1992. He attended school at District 71, St John's Parochial School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1932. He attended Ag College in Lincoln, Nebraska for two terms. He served in the United States Army. On March 4, 1944, Roland married Florence Carlson and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. They had two children, a son, Dale and a daughter, Mary. Roland was a member of the School Board of District 71 and served on many boards of St John's Lutheran Church at Lyons. He enjoyed serving on the Burt County Fair Board for 30 years, as well as a member of the board of the Burt County Museum in Tekamah. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah since 1995. Roland enjoyed fishing, hunting and all sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother and sister, and wife, Florence. Survivors include his son, Dale (Connie) Rewinkel of Sidney, Iowa; daughter, Mary (Al) Kjeldgaard of Tekamah; four grandchildren, Melissa Rewinkel, Holly Kjeldgaard, Tye (Kendra) Kjeldgaard, and Erin (Brent) O'Mara; five great grandchildren, Kya, Shea and Eva Kjeldgaard, and Wyatt, and Quinn O'Mara and all of his special friends at Oakland Heights. FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, February 1, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. BURIAL: St. John's Cemetery, rural Lyons, Nebraska. VISITATION: Monday 1-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation Tuesday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Tekamah and Oakland Height, Oakland.
