Boyd L. Ray

BOYD LELAND RAY was born August 12, 1929, on a farm place east of Tekamah, Nebraska, to Charley E. and Mettie E. (Sears) Ray. He passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska.

Boyd graduated from Tekamah High School in 1946.

He was married to Elinor Blankenship and they had five children. They later divorced.

Boyd farmed with his family until he was eighteen and then went into carpentry.  He worked for Peter Kiewit, had his own business and later retired from Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. Following his retirement, he returned to Tekamah and continued his work as a carpenter until the age of 80 years.

Boyd was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed many years at his cabin northeast of Tekamah by the Missouri River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony; grandchildren, Albert Leland Hummel and Tara Lynn Ray; siblings, Gertie Marr, Dale Ray, Gladith Cram and Charles Ray.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Suzi & Bruce Brandenburg of Uehling, Nebraska, Cindy McCartney of Weeping Water, Nebraska, Donna Meyer & Dan Dykman of Rogers, Nebraska; son, Boyd Paul & Tammy Ray of Omaha; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; brother, Hurley Ray of Tekamah; sister, Beth Groves of Show Low, Arizona; brother-in-law, Gordon Cram; several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, September 3, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

VISITATION: Thursday, September 2nd from 4 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends at the funeral home. Visitation Friday will be held one hour prior to the service.
