Evelyn L. Ramsey

EVELYN LOUISE RAMSEY, 82 years, of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Matney's Colonial Manor in South Sioux City, Nebraska, following a lengthy illness.

Evelyn was born September 7, 1926, in Lyons, Nebraska, to Harry E. and Emma (Osberg) Cates. She graduated from Lyons High School in May 1944.

On November 25, 1947, Evelyn and Garland Ramsey were united in marriage at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. Two daughters were born to this union: Janet and Jane. They farmed all of their married life until they retired and moved into Lyons.   They loved to travel and saw many parts of the United States.

Evelyn was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, the VFW Auxiliary and the Happy Days Senior Center, where she held various offices. Evelyn enjoyed attending various sporting events. Her life’s work was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Garland on January 2, 2000.

Survivors include her daughters: Janet Jacobson of Sioux City, Iowa and Jane (John) Williams of Lyons; eight grandchildren: Eric Cook, Jill Cook Peters, Paul Jacobson, Travis Williams, Daniel Jacobson, Grant Williams, Mitchell Jacobson and Courtney Williams; nine great grandchildren: Austin, Kyle, Gavin, Chailey, Keegan, Madisen, Reece, Owen and Blayne; sister: Celia Southwell of Sioux City, Iowa and her family: Mel and Gene Southwell, Patty Jenness; sister-in-law: Aileen (Peter) Heitzelman of Fremont, Nebraska and her family: Linda Koehler and Gary Christoffersen.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Monday 1-8 pm with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home in Lyons, and  Tuesday morning at the church in Lyons 1 hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska
