Gordon L. Peterson

1931 ~ 2010

GORDON L. PETERSON was born April 1, 1931, in Lyons, Nebraska, to Marvin and Roseanna (Rogers) Peterson. Gordon died peacefully Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska, surrounded by family. Gordon was 79 years of age.

Gordon graduated from Lyons High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 and Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.

On January 16, 1955, Gordon married Doris Lautrup of Kennard, Nebraska. The two met on a blind date. They lived most of their lives on a farm outside Lyons where they raised their three children: Sandra, Teresa, and Lee.

Auctions with Doris were a favorite pastime for Gordon. Never was a cardboard box filled with anything that Gordon didn’t think was worth a bid. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, farming, and any conversation he found during his daily trips to the coffee shop.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and kid brother, Carl Peterson.

Survivors include his wife Doris Peterson of Lyons; daughters, Sandra Francis of West Des Moines, IA, Teresa Pounds of Lyons;  son: Lee Peterson and his wife, Peggy, of Rosalie, NE;  step-mother, Alice Peterson of Oakland; sister, Aileen (Mrs. Larry) Ruszczyk of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren, Laura Francis of Cedar Falls, IA, Amy Gustafson of Gilbert, AZ, Lee Peterson Jr. of Lyons, Casey Francis of Las Vegas, NM, Jenny Gustafson of Fremont, NE, Tawsha Peterson of Lincoln, NE, Kim Phillips of Fremont, Christina Larson of Bancroft, NE, Alysha Peterson of Rosalie; three great-grandchildren: Reagan Rivera, Trenton Cohoon, and Kaiden Peterson. They will all miss him dearly!


FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska, with Military Honors by Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83.

VISITATION: Monday, December 20, 2010, 4 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funera lHome Lyons. Visitation Tuesday will be held will be held at the church one hour prior to the service at the church.
