ALICE THERESA PETERSON was born August 26, 1913, on a farm northwest of Lyons, Nebraska to Einer and Maria “Mja” (Gustafson) Carlson. She passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 97 years. The family moved to a farm northeast of Oakland. Alice was baptized in the Swedish Free Church by Pastor A.W. Franklin and was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church by Pastor Laure on May 27, 1927. She attended Dist. No. 43 and graduated from Oakland High School in 1932. On August 7, 1940, Alice married Marvin Peterson in Fremont. To this union one son, Carl, was born. They farmed until Marvin’s death in 1963. Alice was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and E.L.C.A in Oakland. While living on the farm, she was a member of the Ugo-Igo Club. After moving into Oakland, Alice and a friend started the Busy 12 Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Carl; stepson, Gordon Peterson; three sisters, Florence Rewinkel, Edith Whitman and Ramona Alder. Survivors include stepdaughter, Aileen (Mrs. Larry) Ruszczyk of Naples, Florida; stepdaughter-in-law, Doris Peterson of Lyons; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
