MARION L. NELSON, 95 years of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland. MARION LORETTA NELSON was born December 27, 1915, in rural West Point, Nebraska, to Walter G. and Julia A. (Gustafson) Johnson. She passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 95 years. Marion attended rural school in Cuming County through the eighth grade. She graduated from West Point High School in 1934. In 1938, Marion received her nursing degree from Nebraska Methodist Nursing College in Omaha, Nebraska. On January 18, 1947, Marion and Cameron Joseph Nelson were united in marriage at West Side United Methodist Church in rural Oakland. Marion was a home maker and was employed as a registered nurse at the Oakland Hospital. She was a member of West Side United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Oakland, the United Methodist Women, R-Q Club and a past president of P.E.O. Chapter EL. Marion devoted her life to her nursing, sewing, her family and support of her church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cameron (June 25, 1993); sister, Helen (Mrs. Elmon) Enstrom; brothers, Winston and Chester Johnson. Survivors include her sons, David and his wife, Helen “Jerri” of Bellevue, Jonathan and his friend, Tammy, of Fremont, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Oakland. VISITATION: Tuesday, May 17, 2011, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland.
