Doris L. Nelson

DORIS LUCILLE AUGUSTA NELSON was born September 24, 1912, in Oakland, Nebraska, to John and Emma (Nelson) Erickson. She passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the Parson's House in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 97 years, 11 months and 1 day.

Doris was baptized at the Swedish Methodist Church on January 30, 1913. She graduated from Oakland High School and attended the Van Sant Business School in Omaha. In 1930, Doris married William A. Nelson, Jr. Following the war, Bill joined his father in the Ford Car and John Deere Implement business on Main Street in Oakland.  In 1963, he sold the business and the family moved to Omaha. Doris had worked as a legal secretary and at the Nelson Brothers Garage. Doris was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.  She was known as a great cook and especially loved to cook Swedish foods.

She was active in the First Baptist Church in Oakland and the First Covenant Church in Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William A. Nelson Jr.; granddaughter, Deborah L. Gilmore; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara J. Wolpa (Jerry) of Omaha; son, William A. Nelson III (Phyllis) of Overland Park, Kansas; 3 grandchildren, Suzanne Gilmore-Babb of Plano, Texas, David Nelson and Matthew Nelson of Overland Park, Kansas; 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elaine Chute of Oakland.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, August 30, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at  Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Oakland Cemetery
