Melva J. Murer

1928 ~ 2008

 

MELVA J. MURER, 80 years, of Uehling, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper, Nebraska.

Melva was born August 22, 1928, at the family home in Swaburg to Ernest and Vivi (Monson) Strand.  She attended Logan View District No. 84, Hooper and graduated from Uehling High School in 1946. She attended summer session at Midland College, Fremont, Nebraska, to receive her teaching certificate. Melva taught grades K-8 in several community country schools and Uehling grades 3–4 for many years.

On June 5, 1952, Melva married Everett D. Murer. They farmed their entire married life in the Swaburg area, and then retired to Uehling in 1997.

Melva was active in the U.C. C. Church as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary. She was a member of the Wo-He-Lo Club and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 196, as well as an avid card player.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Gertrude Strand and husband, E. D.

Survivors include her son, Lynn (Barb) of Hooper; daughter Leta (Ed) Olson of Craig, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Lisa (Eric) Johnson of Tallahassee, Florida, Michael Murer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Penny (Michael) Holtmeier of Plymouth, Nebraska, Kalee Olson of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandson, Henry Holtmeier; brother, Loell (Shirley) Strand of Hooper.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, May 27, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church/U.C.C. in Uehling.

VISITATION: Tuesday 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m.at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Wednesday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Baptist Cemetery, rural Hooper, Nebraska
