ROY E. MITCHELL, 89 years of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in Tucson. Roy was born October 6, 1918, in Decatur, Nebraska, to Charles and Gertrude (Sutton) Mitchell. Roy served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II, as a supply sergeant with the 728th Bomb Squadron of the 452-D Bomb Group. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1946. Roy and Velma L. Potts were united in marriage on May 10, 1941, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in California until retiring and moving to Tucson. They returned to Decatur to spend their summers. Velma passed away on May 17, 1994. Roy was employed by Stillman Rubber Company in Culver City, California and later established Coastcraft Rubber Company in Gardena, California. He worked in the rubber industry for over 40 years. Roy never forgot his roots and was, until his death, a proud son of Decatur and a huge Husker fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma; sister: Alice and three brothers: Guy, Homer and Sandy. Survivors include two grandsons: Steve Stillman and Royle Stillman; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
