Mary Jane McKenzie was born April 30, 1926 in Geneseo, Illinois to Hugh and Nell (Bowman) Denton. She passed away Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska at the age of 82 years.

Mary had moved to the Tekamah and Oakland area in her younger years.  She graduated from Oakland High School and went on to Wayne State College to become a teacher.  She taught at the Morning Side School for three years before entering into beautician school.  Mary opened a shop in the Oakland and Lyons area and was in the business for fifty years.

Mary married Richard McKenzie June 14, 1950 in the Baptist Church in Oakland.  They had a daughter Sue Ellen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Esther, Virginia and Betty Lou; brothers Wade, Howard, Jim, Verle and Ralph.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Ellen and husband Robert Stuenkel and a host of nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Oakland, Nebraska

VISITATION: Monday, April 27, 2009, 1-8 pm at the funeral home in Oakland

BURIAL: Oakland Cemetery
