Claire E. Maryott

1913 ~ 2008

 

CLAIRE E. MARYOTTwas born June 8, 1913, in Decatur, Nebraska, to Guy R. and Estella B. (Anson) Sweet, the youngest of five children. She passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 94 years.

Claire attended Deman School and Decatur High School.
           
On December 31, 1929, Claire was united in marriage to Max D. Maryott at Shenandoah, Iowa.  They raised their three children in the Decatur area, then moved to Springview, Nebraska, in 1954, where they resided until returning to Decatur in 1995.  Max was engaged in ranching, and together they raced thoroughbred horses in many states in the United States, as well as in Canada.  They enjoyed spending time with friends dancing and playing cards.  Claire loved to entertain and cook for family and friends.

Claire was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Decatur.  She was very active in Eastern Star, being honored for 50 years of membership, and also served as Guardian of Job’s Daughters, Bethel #36. Claire was very involved with her family, especially the time she spent with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Max, on February 21, 1996; infant brother, Lyle; and sisters Evelyn Parker and Lenore Meyers.

Survivors include her children: Ned (Joey) Maryott, Jan (Jim) Huffman all of Decatur; Dean (Denise) Maryott of  Kingman, Arizona; brother: Clement (Katherine) Sweet of Hastings, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; nephew; nieces and cousins.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, February 11, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Decatur, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Sunday, February 10, 2008, 1 - 8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. at Prayer Service Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska
