Anna L. Malloy

ANNA LAURA MALLOY, 89 years, of Decatur, Nebraska, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska.

Anna Laura (McHenry) Malloy was born April 12, 1919, in Belmont, Nebraska, south of Crawford, to Clarence William and Hanna Dorothea Mathilda (Sjoberg) McHenry.

Anna attended grade school and high school in the Chadron schools. She graduated from Chadron State College in 1941 with a bachelor degree. She joined an agency to find a teaching job. She was referred to an opening in Decatur. She taught school in Decatur from 1941 to 1943.

On May 27, 1943, Mark Malloy and Anna Laura McHenry were united in marriage at Holy Family Catholic church in Decatur. They farmed southwest of Decatur.

After going to summer school at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, Anna taught one year at District #10 country school on Highway 75 between Decatur and Tekamah from 1962 to 1963. She then taught junior high students in Decatur from 1963 until her retirement in 1974.

Anna was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Mark J.; brother: Harry; sister: Helen and daughter-in-law: Cheryl Malloy.

Survivors include her three sons: Pat Malloy of San Angelo, Texas; Rev. Mike Malloy of Emerson, Nebraska; Joe Malloy and his wife, Roberta, of Decatur; daughter: Karen Malloy of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren: including Pat’s sons, Brent Malloy of Cupertino, California and Daniel Malloy of San Angelo, Texas, Joe’s children, Megan Malloy of Lincoln, Nebraska, Evan Malloy of Decatur, step-grandson: Patrick Keefe of San Diego, California; two great grandchildren: Mina and Kai, children of Brent Malloy and Chikako Sakurai of Cupertino, California; sister: Dora McHenry of Sioux City, Iowa.

FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, September 2, 2008,10:30 a.m., at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Decatur, Nebraska

VISITATION: Monday 5 - 8 p.m. with family at Pelan Funeral Home Lyons Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to Mass. PRAYER VIGIL: Monday 7:00 p.m. at the Lyons Chapel

BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska
