WANDA V. MAGNUSSON was born September 7, 1921, at Drew, Missouri, to Albert and Ella (Bohannon) Hough. She passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland. At the age of 8 years, her family moved to Nebraska, around the Tekamah area, where she went to several country schools and graduated from Riverside High School in 1939. On May 18, 1940, Wanda and Arnold Magnusson were united in marriage. They lived on the family farm until Arnold entered the nursing home. Wanda moved into Oakland, where she lived for the past 13 years. Wanda has been a member of the First Lutheran Church in Oakland since 1942. She was a member of the WELCA Group Mary and was involved with the making of quilts for missions and helped with the funeral lunches. She was also a member of the Viking Lodge, East Oaks Project Club and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Wanda was a homemaker and helped in the fields during harvest driving a truck. She also helped with the milking as they had a dairy farm. She took lunches to the men in the fields both mornings and afternoons. She cooked for many hired men and spent most of her time in the kitchen baking and cooking. Her family loved her rye bread and her sour cream twists. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, crocheting, quilting and refinishing furniture. She made over 30 quilts for her family—all hand quilted. She also enjoyed her cards and her “42” clubs. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold (Jan 5, 2000); 6 brothers, Earl (Bonnie), Larry (Mary), Rolland (Ruth), Farris (Mary), Dean and Darrel (Jackie) and 4 sisters, Lorene (Tony) Johnson, Marie (Tom) Deckard, Bernice (John) Grothe and Donna (Mrs. Sam) Weatherly. Survivors include her six children, Janice (Norman) Case, Carl (Joan) Magnusson of Oakland, Linda (Ross) Perry of North Platte, Anita (Randy) Weyers of Lincoln, Dale (Sherrie) Magnusson of Haslett, MI, Sue (Lance) Heiden of Visalia, CA; 21 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Magnusson, brother-in-law, Sam Weatherly, numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, May 7, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. VISITATION: Thursday 4 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Friday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
