CHARLES EDWIN LOCKHART, "YOCKEY", age 94. Lifelong resident of Tekamah, Nebraska. He was born February 2, 1914, in Decatur, Nebraska, to Edwin and Reta (Rumbley) Lockhart. He passed away Sunday, April 27, 2007, in Tekamah. As a young man, Yockey was a “standout” football player and track athlete at Tekamah High School, where he graduated in 1932. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, helping to build the Al-Can Highway. Upon his return, he was a 37-year employee of the Burt County Public Power District. Yockey will be remembered for his quick wit and humor, warm smile and his care and concern for all. A sports enthusiast at heart and an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan; you would often see his Oklahoma Sooner flag flying proudly on a Saturday afternoon while he donned his Oklahoma cap and t-shirt to watch the game. Those left missing him are his wife of 55 years, Katherine; daughters: Mary Miklas of Des Moines, Iowa, Bobbi Jo Lockhart of Omaha, Nebraska; grandsons: Brandon and Christopher Miklas both of Omaha; sisters and brothers-in-law: Bernice and Ronald Ericksen of Omaha, Helen and Norman Madsen of Blair, Nebraska; Keith Palmer of Tekamah; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Jim and Lola Gibbs of Kearney, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Edgar and Sam; sisters: Ann Williams, Hazel Winslade, Agnes Farris and Mae Palmer; sister-in-law: Winona Ryan; brother-in-law: James Ryan. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, a compassionate friend and cheerful soul who made the world a better place and who will be greatly missed. MEMORIAL MASS: Friday, May 2, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah. WAKE SERVICE: Thursday, May 1, 2007, 6:15 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. BURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS: Tekamah Cemetery with Military Honors by Nebraska National Guard Military Honor Guard, VFW Bataan Post No. 3304 and American Legion LeFrenz Post No. 15.
