Lucile Linden was born to Henry and Helen (Isaacson) Johnson on May 13, 1921 on a homestead near Craig, Nebraska. She passed away April 15, 2010 at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska. Lucile was a lifetime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland where she was baptized and confirmed. She attended country schools and graduated from Oakland High School in 1938. She earned a teaching certificate following attendance at Luther and Midland Lutheran College. She began teaching in country schools in 1940, and then taught in Valley, Nebraska and Oakland. One of her students, noted Nebraskan author Gail Rock, modeled the teacher in her book “The House without a Christmas Tree” after Lucile. On June 16, 1948, Lucile was married to Arthur P. Linden in Oakland. They lived on a farm south of Craig and in 1956 they moved to a farm they purchased west of Craig where they raised their family. In the 60’s and 70’s Lucile taught in Nolana Country School. In 1990, she and Art moved to Oakland. Lucile provided leadership for Lutheran Church Women (LCW) in Oakland, the Nebraska Synod, County Extension Club, 4-H Club and Sunday School. She enjoyed time in her garden, traveling, reading, playing pinochle and other card and board games with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Arthur. She is survived by her daughters, Lois Linden of Omaha, Nebraska, JoAnn (Jim) Jackson of Fairmont, Nebraska; son, Bruce Linden of Craig; brothers, Rev. Harold (Mavis “Viki”) Johnson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Leland (Janet) Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; brother-in-law, Harold Linden of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren Michael (Laura) Jackson, Grant (PJ Durr) Jackson, Lindee and Lauren Jackson; great granddaughter Hailey Jackson; nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, April 19, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. VISITATION: Sunday 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
