JIM DEAN KORSHOJ was born December 4, 1944, in Blair, Nebraska, to N. Raymond and Patricia M. (Dean) Korshoj. He passed away Friday, September 16, 2011, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 66 years. Jim attended school in Tekamah until 1960, when the family moved to Neligh, Nebraska. He graduated Salutatorian of his Neligh High School class of 1962 and was very active in band, chorus, football and basketball. After high school Jim went to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In 1966 he graduated from the University of Nebraska with High Distinction and was number one in his business school class. Jim then received his J.D. from the University of Michigan, where he graduated in the upper 10% of his class in 1969. On August 6, 1966, Jim was married to Margaret A. Olney in Neligh. To this union two children were born. Jim and Margaret later divorced. On September 28, 1979, Jim was married to Patricia M. Lennon in Portland, Oregon. In the summer of 1968, Jim interned at Davies, Biggs, Strayer, Stoel and Boley law firm (now known as Stoel Rivers LLP) in Portland, OR. He joined this firm in 1969 as an associate and later as a junior partner. In 1977, Jim and two others founded the law firm of Bullard, Korshoj & Smith, representing management in labor and employment law matters exclusively. The firm grew to become one of the top labor law firms in the Northwest and is known today as Bullard, Smith, Jernstedt and Wilson. Jim remained a senior partner at the firm through the late 1990s when he retired early due to Parkinson’s disease. Jim loved his family, jazz music, sports, traveling, playing games with family and friends, jigsaw puzzles, being outdoors, attending the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, and spending time at his beach house in Manzanita, Oregon, where he established the annual New Year’s beach bowl, a cherished family tradition. Jim and Pat are members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah, Nebraska. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Jerry; sister, Kita; niece, Kaki Maggiore. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Korshoj of Tekamah; son, Matt Korshoj of Portland, OR; daughter, Kerry Rae Korshoj Stoner (Jay Stoner) of Baltimore, MD; three step-children, Anita (Jeff) Gabel, Seamus (Lynn) Lennon and John Lennon, all of Portland, OR; two sisters, Kristy (Joe) Maggiore of Omaha, NE, Karma (Ken) Fields of Excelsior, MN; niece, Kelli (Shane) Belohrad of Omaha; nephews, Christopher Fields of Los Angeles, CA, Michael Fields of Ramstein Air Base, Germany, a great niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins. FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah. VISITATION: Monday 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 8 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. VIGIL SERVICE all at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.
