SHIRLEY MAE (BUTCHEN) JOHNSON was born August 21, 1928, in West Point, Nebraska, to Leo and Ethel (Eastberg) Butchen. She passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 81 years.

Shirley attended West Point Public Schools, graduating in 1946. She married Merl Edgar Johnson on June 16, 1946. To this union three children were born: Larry Dean, Michael Lee and Mary Beth.

Besides raising her children, she worked at Oakland Heights for 32 years. Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merl in 1966 and daughter, Mary O’Mara in 2003.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Dean of Largo, Florida, Michael Lee and his wife, Cynthia, of Oakland, son-in-law, Steve O’Mara and his wife, Pam, of Tekamah; 7 grandchildren, Becky (Jeff) Marr, Julie (Scott) Jensen, Kevin (Melissa) O’Mara, Brent (Erin) O’Mara, Casey (Tony) Moseman, Heidi (Brian) Frick, Amber Harper; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Doreen Meyer of West Point; many nieces, nephews and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, January 25, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Lyons, Nebraska

VISITATION: Sunday 1- 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 2 - 4 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Monday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
