Violet C. Johnson

VIOLET CATHERINE JOHNSON was born to William & Jennie (Steinhilber) Casper, February 23, 1916 near Belgrade and Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. She passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Logan Valley Manor, Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years.

Violet attended grade school at Pinnacle Hill, District 43 and grew up attending the Pinnacle Hill Methodist Church. After graduating from the Belgrade High School she attended Wayne State Teachers College and began her career teaching in elementary schools. She taught at Tekamah, Central City, and Norfolk schools.

Violet married Clifford Johnson September 5, 1953 at Norfolk. They made their home on a farm southwest of Oakland, NE. They built a lovely home and enjoyed their life on the farm and all of God’s blessings.   They lived there until Clifford passed away in July 1991.  Violet spent several more years on the farm before moving into Oakland.  

Violet loved her flowers in the garden, and enjoyed entertaining nieces and nephews and their families.   Very seldom did she miss remembering a birth, birthday or anniversary of her large family.   Her love of Christ and her church-Salem Covenant Church was great.   

She is survived by nephews and nieces: Robert (Sandra) Lundeen of West Point, NE, Peggy (Mitch) Clark of Friendship, TN, Constance Mattox of Huntsville, AL, George (Judy) Casper of Cabool, MO, Mary (Bill) Doughty of Cedar Rapids, NE, Paul (Maruta) Casper of Mountain Grove, MO, Linda (Lynn) Thompson of Estherville, IA, Margaret (Chuck) Dewey of  Nokomis, FL, Lorelie (Bob) Dahlstrom of Rochester, MN, Keith (Judy) Lutz of West Point, NE, Richard Anderson of Oakland, NE, Gaylen (Nadine) Anderson of Oakland, NE,  Linda Krause (Dale Shallberg) of Omaha, NE, Wanda (Terry) Ward of Ash Grove, MO, JoAnn (Dennis) Henderson, of Apoka, FL.  Other family members include niece: Neva Anderson of Raymond, NE; brother-in-law: Elmer Anderson of Oakland, NE; sister-in-law: Blanche Richards, Glendale, AZ; cousins: J.C. (Cathie) Casper of Omaha. She leaves scores of other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Violet was the last member of her generation of the Steinhilber/Casper lineage.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; two brothers, Glenn, as a young boy, and Louis Casper of Britt, IA; sister, Gladys Lundeen of West Point.   Others who preceded her are sisters-and brothers-in-laws: Walter Lundeen, Helen Casper, Eunice (Lawrence) Lutz of Lyons, NE, Gladys Anderson of Oakland, NE, Viola (Harry) Peterson of Omaha, NE,  Robert Richards, Glendale AZ;  nephews and nieces:  Lanny Casper of Britt, IA, Gerald Anderson of Raymond, NE, Merrilea Ann Fink of Rogersville, MO, Roberta (Kip) Hayward of Ankeny, IA and Don Mattox of Huntsville, AL.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Saturday, November 15, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Covenant Church in rural Oakland.

VISITATION:  Friday, November 14, 2008, 1 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m.at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held Saturday one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL:  Salem Cemetery, rural Oakland, Nebraska

MEMORIALS:  Salem Covenant Church, rural Oakland; Oakland Mercy Hospital
