RUSSELL STANLEY JOHNSON was born July 1, 1911, in rural Oakland, Nebraska, to Gust P. and Cora (Palmquist) Johnson. He passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska. On February 11, 1936, Russell and Emma M. Hilbers were united in marriage at her parent’s home in rural Hooper, Nebraska. They farmed south of Oakland for many years, until 1964, when they moved into Oakland. Russell continued to farm until they moved to Texas, where they enjoyed many years together with friends. In 1993, Russell and Emma returned to Oakland to be near their family and friends. Emma passed away on December 22, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Emma; two sisters: Dorthea and Helen and brother: David Earl; son-in-law: Bruce Carlson and daughter-in-law: Marianne Johnson. Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law: Stanley and Donna, Robert and Karen all of Oakland, Rev. George and Nancy of Whitemouth, Manitoba, Canada, Russell Jr. and Jeannine of Davenport, Iowa, Arnold and Peggy of Albion, Nebraska; three daughters and sons-in-law: Beverly Carlson of Omaha, Nebraska, Elaine and Roger Peterson of Oakland, Nebraska, Evelyn and Dale Bolton of Sherrard, Illinois; sister: Ruth Marie of Tyler, Texas; 26 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.
