Pauline M. Huffman

1914 ~ 2010

 

PAULINE M. (TUMA) HUFFMAN was born to Frank and Agnes (Dolezal) Tuma June 21, 1914, on the Tuma homestead south of Howells, Nebraska. She passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at age 95 years.

On May 31, 1930, Pauline married Daniel Taylor Huffman at Pender, Nebraska. Five children were born to this union, Bonnie, Melvin, Doyle, Betty, and Danny. The family lived most of their lives on farms in the Decatur area.
 
Pauline was a homemaker. Always busy, she loved her flowers, yard, garden, and chickens. She mowed with a push mower, raked and burned, canned, butchered chickens and delivered meals on wheels to the “old people” and shut-ins when she was 92 years old. Pauline loved to cook and bake. There was always fresh baked pie for Sunday dinner and her rolls and kolache’ were family favorites.Doing everything by hand, Pauline spent hours cutting, piecing and sewing quilts. She handmade and gave decorative pillows to her children and grandchildren. The last two years, Pauline resided at the Logan Valley Manor. Prior to that, she was an active member of her church and community. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. She was honored to ride in the Grand Marshall’s buggy representing Decatur Veterans in the 2002 Riverfront Parade.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan; daughter, Betty Zerbest; son, Melvin Huffman; and son-in-law, Alfred (Red) Zerbest.
 
Survivors include her children, Bonnie (Harold) Bacon of Lyons, Doyle (Cheryl) Huffman of Lyons, Daniel (Jennifer) Huffman of Onawa IA; daughter-in-law, Melva Huffman of Decatur; sister-in-law, Virginia Huffman; fourteen grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
 
FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday May 10, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Decatur Restoration Branch, Hwy 51/75 or 913 Fourth Avenue, Decatur.

BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur

VISITATION: Sunday 2 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4 - 6 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in LYONS. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
