LLOYD E. HOMES was born September 17, 1930, in Oakland, Nebraska to George and Amy (Swanson) Homes. He passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 77 years. Lloyd, a life-long resident of Oakland, graduated from Oakland High School in 1948. On October 17, 1950, Lloyd and Betty White were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point, Nebraska. They made their home in Oakland where Lloyd was employed at Holmquist Lumber for many years. Lloyd was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. He was a member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and was honored this year for his 50-years of service to the department. Lloyd was also honored with his induction into the Oakland Hall of Fame in 2008. A man of a gentle, quiet nature, he had great pride and love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law: LaVerne and Erwin Moseman; sister-in-law: Viola Homes. Survivors include his wife: Betty of Oakland; son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Sharon Homes of Scribner, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Doug Homes of O'Neill, Nebraska, Michael Homes and his fiancée, Johnna Haynes, of Arkansas City, Kansas, Jennifer Wolfgram and her husband, Joe, of Scribner; four great grandchildren: Chauncey Homes, Dylan and Sydney Wolfgram and Austin Haynes; brothers: Wayne and Betty of Salem, Oregon, Wendell, Martin and Beverly all of Blair, Nebraska, Wesley and Rita, Larry and Irene all of Fremont, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. VISITATION: Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 1 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 – 8 p.m. all at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland.
