Marvin W. Hoegemeyer

1913 ~ 2009

 

MARVIN WILLIAM HOEGEMEYER, son of August and Fredricka (Weitzenkamp) Hoegemeyer was born December 19, 1913 on a farm 5 ½ miles east of Lyons, Nebraska. He passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 95 years.

Marvin was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lyons, Nebraska and confirmed in the church in 1928. He attended Viles School (Dist. 56), graduated from Lyons High School in 1932 and attended Boyles Business College of Omaha, Nebraska. During the Depression he went out to Oregon to work. This experience opened a love of travel that remained with him throughout his life.

Marvin married Sarabelle Sears on August 2, 1939, at Walthill, Nebraska. They moved to a farm ½ mile from his birth place east of Lyons.  He and Sarabelle had lived there for 65 years when they moved to assisted living and then to Logan Valley Manor in Lyons. Marvin was a life-time member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lyons, Nebraska. During those years he served several turns on the church finance board, cemetery board, and Lutheran Layman's League. He was a Farm Bureau member for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarabelle; his parents; brothers: Bernard and Gilbert; sisters: Lydia and infant Viola. 

He is survived by his family son, Neal (Paula) of Shelby Township, Michigan; daughter, Janet (Robert) Ortmann of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a step-great grandson; sister: Fern (Harlan) Stork of Fremont, Nebraska and many relatives and friends.

His family will remember him as a quiet and gentle soul who remained steadfast in his faith and loyal to his family.  

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 10, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Lyons.

VISITATION: Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 1 - 8 p.m.with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Visitation will also be held Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: St. John's Cemetery, rural Lyons, Nebraska
