ROBERT GEORGE HEGY was born March 18, 1925, at Minneapolis, Minnesota, to George and Elsie (Colburn) Hegy. He passed away, Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 85 years.

Robert was a 1943 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. He served in the US Army Air Corp from July 1943 – February 1946.  In 1951, he graduated from the University of Minneapolis, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry.

Robert and Phyllis I. Quist were united in marriage on September 13, 1947, at Fairfax, Minnesota.  In 1951, they moved to California. They lived in Oklahoma from 1953 to 1963. They returned to Minnesota and California for several years before moving to Nebraska in 1966, where he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Bob had also previously worked for Dierks Lumber. His 35 year career in Forestry led to many homes though the years and also many adventures—some good, some not so good.

Bob was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. He was also active within the community, Boy Scouts, coaching baseball, served on the Tree Board and the Mini Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Edwards and son, Mike.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Lyons; sons and spouses, Paul and Joni Hegy of Valley, Nebraska, Jeff and Mary Jo Hegy of Seward, Nebraska; daughters and spouses, Jill and Jim Deupree, Kristin and Rick Downs all of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Barb Hegy of Lyons; ten grandchildren, Taryn and Marcus Hegy, Sarah (Jason) Kampsen, Austin (Brittany) Deupree, Josh (Amanda) Hegy, Korby (Curtis) Wacker, Dustin Hegy Logan Hegy, Connor and Tanner Downs; five great grandchildren, Nolan & Izzy Kampsen, Amelia & Samantha Deupree, and Drake Hegy.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, September 25, 2010, 2:00 p.m., Memorial United Methodist Church, Lyons

VISITATION: will be held Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery
