Grace G. Hawe

1922 ~ 2011

GRACE GENEVIEVE (CHRISTENSEN) HAWE was born January 6, 1922, in Minden, Nebraska, to Chris and Sina (Pedersen) Christensen. She passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Carter House Assisted Living in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years.

Grace graduated from Minden High School in 1940. She worked in a defense plant in Normal, Illinois, and Prison of War Camp at Atlanta, Nebraska, before entering the U.S. Navy in 1944. She trained in New York City as a keypunch computer technician at IBM and was then stationed in Washington, D.C. She was honorably discharged in 1946.

On November 29, 1947, Grace married Erwin Hawe of Heartwell, Nebraska. The spent their life farming in the Heartwell area. Following retirement, they did extensive traveling throughout the United States. They spent several winters at their home in Harlingen, Texas, enjoying many rounds of golf. In 1998, they moved to Tekamah. Erwin passed away in 2000.

Grace was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah and the American Legion Post LaFrenz Post No. 15.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; brothers, Benny and Elmer Christensen; sisters, Gladys Massey, Elizabeth Cover and Clara Pope.

Survivors include her three daughters, Mary (Lloyd) Kahlandt of Tekamah, Theresa Stehlik of Lincoln, NE, Dorothy Fortner of Ventura, CA; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL MASS: Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah.

VIGIL SERVICE: Monday, November 7, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tekamah.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery Military Honors by VFW Bataan Post No. 3304 and American Legion LaFrenz Post No. 15.
