Harry L. Hansen

1918 ~ 2011

HARRY LEWIS HANSEN, 93 years of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City Iowa.

Harry was born May 20, 1918, in Lyons, Nebraska, to George and Nellie (McKenzie) Hansen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Divide Center Presbyterian Church in rural Lyons and was a member until transferring his membership to First Presbyterian Church in Lyons in 1979.

Harry grew up on a farm east of Lyons in the Divide Center Community. He attended grade school at Divide Center School and later Lyons High School. In 1942, he married Elsie Heitshusen. Two daughters were born to this union.

During World War II, Harry enlisted in the Navy Seabees, in June 1942. He served in Newfoundland, Guam and participated in the initial landings of Japan. He received his discharge in October 1945. Harry was a member of VFW Post No. 7998 and American Legion Post No. 83

After the war, Harry returned to the farm east of Lyons. He farmed until his retirement when he moved into Lyons in 1982. Harry enjoyed football and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and an infant brother.

Harry is survived by his wife, Elise of Lyons, daughters and sons-in-law, Marinell and Gary Neuhaus of Omaha, Nebraska, Carolie & Daniel Smith of Lyons;  three grandchildren, Jay Neuhaus of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jacquie Neuhaus of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Heather and husband, Jason Lauritsen of Lyons ; two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Blake Lauritsen of Lyons.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Thursday, July 28, 2011,10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery with Military Honors by Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83 and Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998.
