CLIFFORD GUSTAFSON was born September 10, 1914, to Hugo and Ellen (Johnson) Gustafson on a homestead near Craig, Nebraska. He passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home, at the age of 96 years.
Clifford graduated from Oakland High School and began to work on the family farm. He continued farming in Burt County throughout his life, until he moved into town with his sister, Helen, in 1981.
Clifford was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Oakland until his health required him to move to the Oakland Heights Nursing Home. This however did not stop him from attending the services at the nursing home and enjoying visits with the pastors. Clifford was truly a people person and loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. He also had a deep respect for the earth and the environment. As a true Christian, he believed everything in life was special and deserved to be treated with respect. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Arlene Gustafson; brothers-in-law, Oscar Anderson, Cleo Smith, and Sherril Mellor; nephew, Dale Anderson.
Survivors include his three sisters and their children: Helen Anderson of Oakland, Nebraska and her daughter, Darlene (Michael) Husen of Fremont, Nebraska, Vivian Smith of Modesto, California and her son, Richard (Donna) Smith of Oakdale, California, Bertha Mellor of Omaha, Nebraska and her sons Raymond Mellor of Wilsonville, Oregon, Darrel Mellor of Olympia, Washington, and Gary (Jayne) Mellor of Omaha Nebraska; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
