EVA MARIE GILBERT was born May 13, 1916, to Samuel Edgar and Martha Caroline (King) Modlin on a farm east of Herman, Nebraska, in Burt County, the oldest of six children. She passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, at the age of 91 years. Eva married Leslie Clifford Gilbert on December 10, 1938, at the courthouse in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born: Karen Lee and Colleen Ann. Eva was a life-long resident of the Tekamah area and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. She was a home maker and also worked as a house cleaner for Jeeps, Marquardts, Sauers and Lattas and many others. She loved to sew, paint pictures and write poetry. Her poems have been published on the internet under www.poetry.com. She also loved to garden, especially with flowers, and play guitar and sing. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; two brothers: Robert and Paul Modlin; sister: Roberta Kantor and grandson: Heath Lee Sparks. Survivors include her two daughters: Karen Kjeldgaard of Ozark, Alabama, Colleen Schaupp and her husband, Bill, of Dunlap, Iowa; five grandchildren: Roxanne Lynn Kruse and husband, Russell, Melena Jo Shiver and husband, Brian all of Ozark, Alabama, Crystal Lynette Shafer and husband, Bill, of Dunlap, Iowa, Troy Lee Davis and wife, Sandy of Odebolt, Iowa and Heath Lee Sparks (deceased); eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, Ashton; two sisters: Phyllis Jean Adden and Marlene Kay Tranmer both of Tekamah; many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, April 12, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. VISITATION: Friday, April 11, 2008, 1 - 8 p.m., family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. PRAYER SERVICE all at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery
