Tamsey Gatewood was born to John Bacon and Jessie (Shawver) Bacon on May 28, 1920, at their home near Lyons, Nebraska. She passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at her home in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years. On March 12, 1939, Tamsey married Ray Gatewood in Fremont, Nebraska. To this union were born seven children. They lived in Lyons and Decatur, Nebraska, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and returned to Lyons before Ray died in 2004. Tamsey taught before her marriage at Wilson School near Decatur. Years later, she taught for several years at Bacon School and then at Sergeant Bluff-Luton Schools in Iowa until her retirement in 1978. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; their oldest son, Don; daughter, Judith; as well as four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include her children, Nancy Touil and M'Barek of Dakota City, NE, Jim Gatewood and Pat of Gainesville, VA, Susan Gatewood of Anchorage, AK, Jane Cleveland and John of Omaha, NE, and John Gatewood of Kailua-Kona, HI; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Monday, April 11, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, Nebraska.
