Della C. Fritts

1910 ~ 2008

 

DELLA CATHERINE FRITTS was born May 30, 1910, the fourth of nine children born to Jerry and Veronika (Hudec) Stanek on a farm near Walthill, Nebraska. She passed away, Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 98 years.

Della attended Oak Leaf Elementary School and graduated from Walthill High School in 1928. She was a bookkeeper at the bank for two and ½ years before marrying George Fritts at Walthill on January 15, 1931. They bought a farm west of Lyons in 1938, where they lived for 28 years. George and Della were parents of six children.

Della was an active member of West Side Aid. She was both a charter and 50-year member of the Lyons Extension Club founded in 1941. She enjoyed giving demonstrations for 4-H clubs. An avid gardener, she was also a member of the Lyons Garden Club.

Della was a member of St. Joseph’sCatholic Church in Lyons and sang in the choir for many years. She was also an active member and officer of St. Joseph’s Altar Society.

Della looked forward to fishing trips in Minnesota and later to Apache Junction, Arizona, during the winter months. Following George’s death in 1980, Della spent twenty more winters in Arizona, enjoying visits from children and grandchildren.

In 2003, Della moved to the Logan Valley Manor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; four brothers: George, Charles, Millard and Jerry; four sisters: Agnes Stanek, May Stewart, Betty Easton, Mildred Merrick; son-in-law: Bill Bednar (Mary); special friend: Merv Howe (Barbara) and  great granddaughter: Chelsea Bednar.

Survivors include her six children: Barbara Olnhausen of Omaha, Mary Bednar of Grand Blanc, Michigan; George Fritts (Mary), Bonnie French (Kelly) all of Lyons, Arcelia Sauer (John) of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Elizabeth Loos (Randy) of Lincoln; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

FUNERAL MASS: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at. St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 1 - 5 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Wake Service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.
