ALPHA MARIE FREY was born September 7, 1908, in rural Rosalie, Nebraska, on a farm one mile north of the intersection of Highway 77 and State Spur 177 to Harry Edward and Maude Belle (Braucher) Morris. She passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, at the age of 99 years. Alpha was baptized at home on the farm along with her sister, Ethel. When she was four years old the family moved to Walthill, where she attended school through the fourth grade. The family moved to Macy for two years and then to the Jefferson area, where she attended school through the tenth grade. Alpha graduated from Lyons High School in 1926. Following her graduation, she did housework for several families. On April 6, 1929, she married Harold Frey in Sioux City, Iowa. They farmed in the Pender, Nebraska, area until moving to the Blackbird area in 1932. They farmed at several different locations until 1947 when they bought their own place and farmed until retiring to Lyons in 1971. Harold passed away on March 17, 1998. Alpha was a member of the Blackbird Ladies Aid, First Presbyterian Church in Lyons and its Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; grandson, Alan David Vavra; daughter, Lois Vavra; sisters, Ethel Morter and Evelyn Morris; and brother, Roland Morris. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Norman and Mary Frey of Lyons; six grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, February 9, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, Nebraska. VISITATION: Friday, February 8, 2008, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. Visitation will also be held Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery MEMORIALS: First Presbyterian Church, Lyons.
