Helen A. Freed

1918 ~ 2009

 

HELEN ALICE FREED,  91 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland.

Helen was born January 19, 1918, in rural Winner, South Dakota to J. Ernest and Lillie (Nelson) Elmquist. She graduated from Craig High School in 1935 and attended Wayne Normal School, where she received a teaching certificate. She taught country school for six years.

On August 29, 1942, Helen and C. Elmer Freed were united in marriage at the Baptist Church in Fremont, Nebraska. They had two daughters: Kay and Susan. Helen was a homemaker.

Helen was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Oakland and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Elmer on August 29, 1987; brother: Leonard; and sister: Vivian.

Survivors include her daughters:  Kay Schaefer of Bellevue, Nebraska, Susan (Timothy) Miller of Logan, Iowa; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, March 26, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Oakland, Nebraska

VISITATION: Wednesday 1- 8 pm. with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

BURIAL: Oakland Cemetery
