FERN IRENE (WHALEY) HAYES FRANGENBERG was born May 7, 1918, in Julesburg, Colorado, to Charles and Floy (Porter) Whaley. She passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years.
She married Paul R. Hayes in 1934. To this union, four children were born: Paul “Bucky”, Rosie, Helen, and Timmy.
For many years, Fern owned and operated various cafes in Lyons, Nebraska, known for her hot beef sandwiches, potato salad, hard work and honesty. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Fern enjoyed quilting, handwork, crocheting, glass working, and gardening.
In December 1984, Fern married Bill Frangenberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Hayes, in 1962; son, Paul “Buck” Hayes; daughter, Rosie Schulke; four brothers, a sister and granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband Bill of Lyons; daughter, Helen (Lawrence) Drummond of Lyons; son, Tim (Gail) Hayes of Lincoln, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Tuesday, April 26, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons.
