Orville A. Fehrer

1921 ~ 2011

ORVILLE A. FEHRER was born March 11, 1921, on the family farm near Beemer, Nebraska to Leo and Meta (Bloedorn) Fehrer. He passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Oakland Mercy Medical Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska at the age of 89 years.

Orville was baptized in Beemer as an infant and was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Bancroft, Nebraska.
Orville met the love of his life on July 4, 1942, at the skating rink in the Lyons Park. After over three years of service in WWII, Orville returned home and was united in marriage to Doris Carlson on November 29, 1945, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bancroft. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed briefly in Bancroft, Walthill, and Oakland until they moved to the family farm east of Lyons in 1966. They moved to their current home in Lyons in 1996.

Orville served as a communication specialist and field artillery linemen during WWII. Orville was overseas during the death of his father and still continued to serve his country. Patriotism was an important part of Orville’s life.
Orville enjoyed the peaceful Nebraska countryside and loved farming. He passed on his love for farming to his son, Roger. Orville was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons for 52 years until Orville and Doris joined Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Orville is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; children, Judy and husband, Allan Klusman of Lincoln, NE, Roger and wife, Candice Fehrer of Lyons; seven grandchildren, Terry (Shelley) Nelson of Lincoln, Tammy (Ben) Green of Lincoln, April (Brent) Wisnieski of Norfolk, NE, Cassie (Solomon) Connealy of Omaha, NE, Angel Fehrer of Lyons, Misty (Dave) Gartner of Doniphan, NE, Teresa (Tim) Matrisciano of Dannebrog, NE; nine great grandchildren, Gaven and Hagen Nelson, Keegan and Kartney Green, Thomas and Tyler Wisnieski, Braden and Caleb Schuppan, and Danielle Matrisciano; sister, Alta Jelinski of Little Falls, MN; brother, Melvin Fehrer of West Point, NE.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, February 5, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.

VISITATION: Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery with Military Honors by Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83.
