Leland G. Enstrom

LELAND GENE ENSTROM was born October 14, 1927, at West Point, Nebraska, to Richard and Edith (Johnson) Enstrom. He passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Oakland Nursing Home in Oakland, a the age of 82 years.

Leland attended District 74 in rural Cuming County and graduated from Oakland High School in 1945.

On October 1, 1949, Leland married Ethel Madsen in Oakland. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He served in the Korean War and worked on aircraft as a hydraulics mechanic. He was discharged in 1959 and returned to farm with his father. He farmed with his wife in Burt and Cuming County until he retired in 2001. While farming he also drove truck for himself and several other businesses in the Oakland-Uehling area.

He was a West Side Methodist Church trustee and a former member of Uehling Fire and Rescue and Ryan VFW 5543 and American Legion Post 46 of Oakland.

Leland enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson.

Survivors include: wife Ethel; daughter and son-in-law, Carol (Harold) Lindstrom; son and daughter-in-law, Lon (Denise) Enstrom all of Oakland; brother and sister-in-law, Claire and Ardis Enstrom of Gretna; sister-in-law, Viola Enstrom of Oakland, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Oakland, Nebraska

VISITATION: Monday, July 12, 2010, 1 - 8 pm with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services Oakland. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

MILITARY HONORS: American Legion Post No. 46 and Ryan VFW Post No. 5543

BURIAL: Westside Cemetery, Rural Oakland
