WALETTA BEUM ELSKE was born November 29, 1935 in Tekamah, Nebraska, to Walter & Doris (Trowbridge) Beum. She passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at her home in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 74 years. Waletta attended Tekamah Schools until 1952. She married Duane Elske January 19,1952. They had 3 daughters and 2 sons. They moved to Stella, Nebraska, where they farmed the Elske family farm until 1968. They returned to Tekamah and purchased the Dairy Queen, which they operated for several years. Waletta also worked at the Tiger's Den, Wheeler's Steakhouse and Grandma's Eats and Treats in Oakland for several years. Retiring, she spent her time taking care of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed family picnics, reunions, and any time with family. Waletta was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Gene and Sam Thompson, and family friend, Oren Knight. Survivors include her children: Marcia (Joe) Mitchell of Fremont, Nebraska, Debbie (Greg) Rosenboom of Oakland, Richard (Jane) Elske of Tekamah, twins: Michelle( Matt) Hopkins of Tekamah and Michael Elske of Omaha; brother and sisters: Alfred Clausen of Devil’s Elbow, Missouri, Verah Lallman of Fremont, Nada (Smoe) Shadonix of Ottumwa, Iowa, Harriet Litel of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Liz Knight of Omaha, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren, Meggan Booth, Mandy (Brad) Pruess, Joshua (Jen) Johnson, Molly Rosenboom, Amber (Rick) Nun, Kelsey Rosenboom, Zach Rosenboom, Cody & Logan Hopkins; 9 great grandchildren, Halle Olsen, Read Booth, Charlie Rosenboom, Caden Booth, Carter Rosenboom, JD Booth, Layla Pruess, Grant Johnson, and Miles King; several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, July 2, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. VISITATION: Thursday 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
